Ibero-American Congress of Development and Environment
“LOCAL CHALLENGES IN THE FACE OF GLOBALIZATION”
8th and 9th of november 2002 - FLACSO-Quito, Ecuador
 
 
 
  • 4 Plenary sessions (45 minutes each one). In each plenary session, an internationally well known expert will talk about important aspects of the relationship between the environment and development in the context of globalization, making special reference to the Latin American reality. There will be 15 minutes for audience participation.
  • 5 workshops organized in 4 parallel sessions (90 minutes each one). Each workshop consist of 4 parallel thematic sessions of 90 minutes each one covering 10 topic areas. In each thematic session, 4 papers will be presented by participants (15 minutes each one), leaving 30 minutes for the debate. Each session will be chaired by a member of the Scientific Committee. 80 papers for these sessions are expected.
  • Posters. There will be the possibility for civil institutions to present their work and initiatives by means of hanging posters. The posters will be available throughout the conference, so that authors can exchange impressions and views with the participants. Moreover, there will be some time scheduled for further discussion on the Posters.
  • Round Table discussion: The role of civil society in the development. A 90-minute open debate that intends to open ways of dialogue between the scientific community and social organizations about their approaches and experiences. This Round Table will be chaired by representatives of social and civic organizations that actively work defending local strategies of development, from an ecological and social perspective.
  • Round Table discussion: Perspectives for launching an Ibero America Network of Ecological Economy. A 90-minute open debate about the opportunity and viability of creation of a scientific network on ecological economics, as a contribution to the scientific development of the region as well as to the design of strategies for a more sustainable local development.
  • Closure Plenary. During this last session there will be a summary of the main conclusions reached within the different academy presentations.
  • Meals, breaks and Farewell Cocktail.They provide an informal environment for deepening contacts made during the sessions, as well as they facilitate contact and exchange between senior, junior scientists and other actors.
